Fowler Headlines Bears' Nine Representatives on All-Little East Men's Swimming & Diving Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Little East Conference (LEC) formally announced the 2023-2024 men’s swimming & diving all-conference team on Wednesday. All-conference recognition was determined by individual and relay performances at last week’s LEC Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships.

The BSU men's swimming & diving team, under the guidance of LEC Coach of the Year Mike Caruso, was well represented on the all-conference team led by Swimmer of the Year and Rookie Swimmier of the Year, freshman Aaron Fowler (Brookline, Mass.).

The Bears won 13 events at last week's Little East Championships, placed second in seven events and third in five events enroute to their third straight conference title. LEC individual and relay champions garnered first team honors on the all-conference team while second place finishers were named to the All-Little East Second Team, and third place performers earned third team accolades.

Fowler captured top honors and set three school and meet records in the 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. He was also part of four winning relay teams.

Also representing Bridgewater State on the All-Little East First Team are seniors Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.), Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.), Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) and Connor Young (Chelmsford, Mass.); sophomore Cooper Sever (Edgewater, Md.); and freshman Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.).

Castellone earned individual first team honors in the 50 breaststroke; Pervier in the 50 freestyle; Young in the 1,650 freestyle; Sever in the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke; and Saengthong in the 100 freestyle.

The Bears also picked up first team accolades and set meet records in the 200 freestyle relay (Fowler, Saengthong, Gravanda, Pervier), 200 medley relay (Sever, Castellone, Fowler, Pervier), 400 freestyle relay (Fowler, Saengthong, Gravanda, Pervier) and 400 medley relay (Sever, Castellone, Fowler, Saengthong). The 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay squads checked in with school records as well.

Castellone (100 breast, 200 breast), Pervier (100 free), Saengthong (50 free) and Young (500 free, 1,000 free) also represented Bridgewater State on the All-Little East Second Team. The 800 freestyle relay squad featuring Pervier, Young, Sever and Saengthong rounds out Bridgewater's second team selections.

Gravanda, Saengthong, sophomore Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) and freshman Drew Lawrence (Winchendon, Mass.) earned All-Little East Third Team recognition. Gravanda placed third in the 100 backstroke, Saengthong in the 200 freestyle, McKenzie in the 50 backstroke and Lawrence in both the 200 and 400 individual medley.
