Aaron Fowler Named Little East Men's Swimmer & Rookie Swimmer of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Aaron Fowler has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Swimmer and Rookie Swimmer of the Week.

A native of Brookline, Massachusetts, Fowler broke three school records, won three individual events and was part of two winning relays this past weekend at the BSU Invitational as he helped lead the Bears to the meet title.

Fowler eclipsed his own program mark in the 50 butterfly with a time of 22.37 seconds surpassing his previous standard of 22.79 seconds set back on October 28th. He also broke both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle records previously set by Dave Cangiano back in 1996 and 1998, respectively. Folwer posted a time of 20.97 seconds in the 50 free, bettering Cangiano's 1996 mark of 21.14 seconds, and touched the wall in 46.96 seconds in the 100 free to take down Cangiano's 1998 standard of 47.49 seconds.

Fowleer swam the butterfly leg on the Bears' winning 400 medley relay squad (3:33.79) and competed on the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:13.83).

Fowler is currently tied for seventh in all of Division III in the 50 butterfly. He also earned Little East Swimmer of the Week honors on October 17th and November 6th, and LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week accolades on October 30th and November 6th.

The BSU swimming and diving teams are off until Saturday, January 20th (noon) when the Bears travel to Brandeis University for a tri-meet with the host Judges and Keene State College.
