Aaron Fowler Named Little East Men's Rookie Swimmer of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Aaron Fowler has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Rookie Swimmer of the Week.

A native of Brookline, Massachusetts, Fowler broke a 27-year-old school record, won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams to lead the Bears to a 165.5-85.5 dual meet victory over Clark University this past weekend at the Moriarty Pool.

Fowler posted a time of 22.79 seconds in the 50 butterfly as he eclipsed the previous BSU standard of 23.12 set by Dave Cangiano back in 1996. The Bears' rookie swimmer also placed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.29 seconds as he was less than 2/10 of a second off Cangiano's program mark of 21.14 also set in 1996.

Fowler swam the butterfly leg (22.67) on the Bears' winning 200 medley relay squad (1:40.13) and competed on Bridgewater's first-place 400 freestyle relay team (3:20.57).

Fowler is currently ranked third in all of Division III in the 50 butterfly and 23rd in the 50 freestyle.

The BSU swimming and diving teams are back in action next Saturday afternoon when the Bears entertain Wheaton College at 2:00 PM.
