Men's Swimming & Diving Remains in First Place at LEC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team earned three conference titles and set two meet records as well as one school mark on Saturday during day three of the 2024 Little East Conference (LEC) Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley.

Freshman Aaron Fowler (Brookline, Mass.) earned the LEC title in the 50 butterfly with a program and meet record time of 22.33 seconds. Fowler broke his own school mark of 22.37 seconds set earlier this season at the BSU Invitational.

The Bears' 200 medley relay squad featuring sophomore Cooper Sever (Edgewater, Md.), senior Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.), Fowler and senior Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) won the conference championship and set the meet record with a time of 1:34.74. The foursome was 2/10 of a second off the school record time of 1:34.53 set in 2019.

Sever captured the LEC crown in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.71 seconds.

The Bears' quartet of Pervier, senior Connor Young (Chelmsford, Mass.), Sever and freshman Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) placed second in the 800 freestyle relay (7:20.55), while Castellone was second in the 100 breaststroke (58.94). Saengthong, freshman Drew Lawrence (Winchendon, Mass.) and senior Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) each finished in third place,respectively, in the 200 freestyle (1:48.58), 400 individual medley (4:30.56) and 100 backstroke (55.31). 

The Little East championship meet concludes on Sunday with preliminary events getting underway at ten o'clock. The two-time defending champion Bears sit atop the team standings with 662 points. Keene State College (585 pts.) is in second place while Eastern Connecticut State University (578 pts.) checks in at third.
