Men's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Tri-Meet

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team swept a tri-meet host by Brandeis University on Saturday at the Linsey Pool.

The Bears (3-3) posted a 139.5-117.5 win over the host Judges and downed Little East Conference (LEC) rival Keene State College by a margin of 152-125.

Bridgewater grabbed top honors in nine events at the meet including both relays.

Freshman Aaron Fowler (Brookline, Mass.) led the way for the Bears with individual victories in the 50 backstroke (24.94), 50 freestyle (21.94) and 50 butterfly (22.88).

Fowler also swam a leg on BSU's winning 200 medley relay squad along with sophomore Cooper Sever (Edgewater, Md.), senior Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.) and fellow rookie Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.).

Castellone added individual wins in both the 50 breaststroke (29.59) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.15) while Sever placed first in the 100 butterfly (55.96) and Saengthong was the first to touch the wall in the 100 freestyle (49.33). Sever's time in the 100 fly marked a career-best.

Saengthong, Castellone and seniors Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) closed out the meet with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.48).

The Bears are back in the pool on Thurday night when they travel to Bentley University for a six o'clock meet with the Division II Falcons.
