Fowler Sets 100 Fly Record in Setback to Roger Williams

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman Aaron Fowler (Brookline, Mass.) eclipsed another 27-year old school record to lead the Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team in a dual meet against Roger Williams University on Friday evening at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (1-3) dropped a 134-71 decision to the visiting Hawks (1-2).

Fowler captured top honors in the 100 butterfly with a school-record time of 50.85 seconds as he broke Dave Cangiano's previous mark of 51.37 seconds set back in 1996.

Fowler, classmate Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.), sophomore Cooper Sever (Edgewater, Md.) aand senior Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the foursome posted a time of 1:38.52.

Fowler, Saengthong, sophomore Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) and senior Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) closed out the meet by placing first in the 200 freestyle relay as the quartet checked in with a time of 1:28.27. Fowler's leadoff time of 21.43 seconds was less than 3/10 of a second off of Cangiano's 50 freestyle record of 21.14 also set in 1996.

Fowler is currently ranked 34th in all of Division III in the 100 fly.

The BSU men's swimming & diving team is off until Saturday, December 2nd when the Bears host the BSU Invitational.
