Men's Swimming & Diving Captures Second Straight Little East Title

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team captured its second straight conference title on Sunday at the Little East Conference (LEC) Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley.

The Bears finished with 979 points over the three-day meet as they outdistanced second-place Keene State College (860 pts.). Eastern Connecticut State University (655 pts.) rounded out the top three teams at the championship meet.

Junior Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.) won the LEC crown in the 200 breaststroke with a meet-record time of 2:10.46. Castellone broke his own record of 2:12.55 set last season.

Freshman Brady Callahan (Taunton, Mass.) grabbed top honors in the 50 backstroke with a time of 25.28 seconds.

Junior Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) set a meet record and garnered the conference title in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.78 seconds. Pervier eclipsed the previous mark of 48.06 seconds set last season by former teammate Joshua Hernandez.

Castellone, Pervier, junior Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) capped off the meet with a first-place performance in the 400 freestyle relay as the foursome posted a time of 3:13.01.

Castellone and Pervier each earned five gold medals over the three-day meet, while Callahan collected a pair.

BSU head coach Mike Caruso was named the Little East Men's Coach of the Year.

The BSU swimming and divings teams had a total of 119 event performances at the Little East Championships, (all relay events, all swim events, and all diving events). Out of the 119 performances, 115 of them were a season best for a whopping 97%.
