William Russell Named MASCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate goalkeeper William Russell has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Russell went 2-0 with a shutout, 24 saves, a 0.50 goals against average and a .960 save percentage in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears. The Sandwich, Massachusetts native made a career-high 13 saves in a 1-0 shutout victory on the road over Salve Regina University and turned aside 11 shots in a 2-1 MASCAC win at Salem State University.

Through 11 games this season, Russell is 6-1-4 with two shutouts and a 1.18 goals against average in 990 minutes of work. He has turned aside 79 shots and currently sports an .859 save percentage.

Russell presently leads the MASCAC in minutes played, wins and saves. He is also tied for second among the conference leaders in shutouts and ranks third in both goals against average and save percentage.

In 41 games over four seasons at Bridgewater State, Russell is 19-13-8 with nine shutouts, a 1.27 goals against average, 258 saves and an .835 save percentage in just over 3,603 minutes (3603:27) of work.

Russell also earned the MASCAC weekly honor back on September 18th.

The BSU men's soccer team is currently 6-1-4 on the season and sits atop the MASCAC standings with a 3-0-1 conference mark. The Bears travel to Emmanuel College on Wednesday night for a seven o'clock game with the Saints.
