David Nelson Named MASCAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward David Nelson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Nelson scored four goals, including a pair of game-winners, and added an assist for nine points in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts native netted a hat trick in a 6-0 MASCAC shutout win over Westfield State University, and potted the game-winning goal and dished out an assist in a 3-0 shutout victory over UMass Dartmouth.

Through 15 games this season, Nelson has recorded eight goals and four assists for 20 points. He presently ranks second in the MASCAC in scoring and is tied for second in game-winning goals with theee. Nelson is also third among the conference leaders in goals and tied for fourth in assists.

In 70 games over four seasons at Bridgewater State, Nelson has amassed 27 goals and 14 assists for 68 points. Eight of his 27 goals have been game-winners. He ranks fifth among the Bears' all-time leaders in goals and is tied for fifth in scoring.

The MASCAC weekly honor marks the first of Nelson's career.

The BSU men's soccer team is currently 9-2-4 on the season and 5-0-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to Rhode Island College tomorrow afternoon for a four o'clock game with the Anchormen.
