Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw at Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. -- The visiting Bridgewater State University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Roger Williams University on Tuesday night at Bayside Field.

Four of the Bears' eight games this season have finished in a tie. Bridgewater is now 3-1-4 on the year. The Hawks (2-2-5) have played in five ties in 2023.

BSU sophomore forward Filippo Mucci (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with his first goal of the season. Off a Nicholas Ribeiro (Fr., Bellingham, Mass.) corner kick, the ball deflected out to the top of the 18. Mucci's left-footed shot from the top of the 18 found its way through multiple defenders and inside the back post.

Less than five minutes later, the Hawks tied it on an unassisted tally by freshman forward Patrick Marino (Wyckoff, N.J.).

That would be all the scoring in the game. Roger Williams put seven shots on frame in the second half but could not get another one past BSU graduate keeper William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.).

Russell finished with eight saves on the evening with seven of those coming in the second half. Junior netminder Hogan Cain (Nottingham, N.H.) turned aside five shots for the Hawks.

Roger Williams held a 15-11 shot advantage for the game as well as an 8-2 edge in corner kick attempts.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday at noon. The Bears host Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Framingham State University while the Hawks travel to Endicott College to take on the Gulls in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
