Four Bears Named to All-MASCAC Men's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Four Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been voted to the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer All-Conference Team by the league's eight head coaches.

Sophomore midfielder Nicolas Matias was selected to the All-MASCAC First Team, while senior forward Robson Montrond, junior forward David Nelson and sophomore defender Justin Silva (North Attleboro, Mass.) each garnered All-MASCAC Second Team honors.

Roberts is making his third appearance on the All-MASCAC Team as he earned second team accolades in both 2018 and 2021. Silva was also named to the All-MASCAC Second Team a year ago, while Matias and Nelson are each making their first appearance on the all-conference team.

A native of Milford, Massachusetts, Matias started 16 games and dished out three assists in his first season with the Bears after transferring from Framingham State. In 30 games over his two seasons of collegiate soccer, Matias has recorded a goal and four assists for six points.

Montrond notched five goals, including a pair of game-winners, and added four assists for 14 points in 19 games this season. The Brockton, Massachusetts product tied for fourth in the MASCAC in assists and tied for fifth in game-winning goals. Montrond wrapped up his career at Bridgewater State with 17 goals (five game-winners) and six assists for 40 points over 53 games.

Nelson scored a career-high nine goals to go along with one assist for nine points in 17 games. Three of his nine markers were game winners. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts native ranked third in the MASCAC in goals, tied for second in game-winning goals and tied for fourth in scoring. In 55 games over his first three seasons, Nelson has 19 goals (five game-winners) and ten assists to his credit for 48 career points. 

Silva anchored the BSU defensive backfield in 2022. The Bears posted a team goals against average of 1.36 and recorded seven shutouts in 19 games. The North Attleboro, Massachusetts product started 15 games and recorded a goal and an assist. Silva has a goal and two assists for four points in 31 games over his first two season.

The BSU men's soccer team wrapped up the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 7-8-4. Seeded fourth in the MASCAC Tournament with a 4-2-1 conference mark, the Bears posted a 6-0 shutout victory over #5 Westfield State University in the quarterfinal round, before advancing to the conference championship game on penalty kicks in a 1-1 tie with top-seeded Framingham State University in the semifinals. The Bears played #3 Worcester State University to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtime periods in the MASCAC title game, but the season came to an end as the Bears lost on penalty kicks.
