Three Bears Named to All-MASCAC Men's Soccer Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Three Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been voted to the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Soccer All-Conference Team by the league's eight head coaches.

Senior defender Zachary Ells (Douglas, Mass.), senior goaltender Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, Mass.) and junior midfielder Stanislaus Sokolov (Reading, Mass.) each garnered All-MASCAC Second Team honors.

Morgado is making his third consecutive All-MASCAC appearance as he earned first team accolades in 2018 and second team in 2017. Ells and Sokolok are both making their second straight appearance on the All-MASCAC Second Team.

Ells anchored the Bears' defensive backfield in 2019. The Douglas, Massachusetts product appeared in 18 games with 16 starts and tallied a goal. In four seasons at Bridgewater State, Ells notched two goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 75 career games. He tied Sawyer Fleck’s program record of 73 career starts and finished his career tied for fourth in games played.

A native of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Morgado started 19 of the Bears' 20 games and posted a 1.90 goals against average with 99 saves, a .728 save percantage. He also recorded three shutouts. Morgado ranked second in the MASCAC in games played, minutes (1750:21) and saves. He was also fourth in wins and tied for fourth in shutouts.

In 68 games (6153:00 minutes) over four seasons in a BSU uniform, Morgado notched 26 wins and 15 shutouts to go along with 360 saves, a 1.73 goals against average and a .753 save percentage. He ranks second among the Bears' all-time goaltenders in minutes and games played, third in saves, and fourth in both wins and shutouts.

Sokolov appeared in all 20 games for the Bears in 2019 and made 18 starts. The Reading, Massachusetts product scored three goals, including two game-winners, and added a pair of assists for eight points. Sokolov has played in 55 games and made 50 starts over his first three seasons with the Bears.

The BSU men's soccer team wrapped up the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 5-13-2. Seeded sixth in the MASCAC Tournament with a 3-4 conference mark, the Bears knocked off #3 Fitchburg State University, 4-0, in the tournament quarterfinal round. The Bears then played second-seeded Salem State University to a 3-3 double overtime tie in the semifinals, but were eliminated on penalty kicks.
