Men's Soccer Falls to Babson, 5-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forwards Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) and Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) tallied two goal apiece to lead the visiting Babson College men's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon at rain-soaked Swenson Field.

The Beavers, who are ranked seventh in the most recent Division III New England Regional rankings, improve to 11-5-2 on the season, while the Bears fall to 3-13-1. Babson is now 17-8-3 all-time versus Bridgewater State and 17-0-3 in last 20 meetings.

Crompton got the Beavers on the board with an unassisted tally in the tenth minute as he collected a loose ball in the box and ripped a shot into the right side of the cage. Less than four minutes later, Crompton headed home a long volley sent into the box by sophomore defender Eamon Keenan (East Greenwich, R.I.) to make it a 2-0 game. Freshman defender RJ Parrilla (Pawcatuck, Conn.) picked up the secondary assist on the strike.

Ziad collected a through-ball from sophomore midfielder Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) in the 23rd minute and beat the keeper one-on-one to round out the first half scoring.

In the 61st minute, Ziad found the back of the net off a corner kick with Crompton and Collins assisting on the goal.

Senior midfielder Luke Beaulieu (Westfield, N.J.) notched his first marker of the 2019 campaign in the 84th minute to cap off the 5-0 win. Sophomore midfielder Garrett Ramos (New York, N.Y.) set up Beaulieu's goal.

Babson finished with a 26-9 shot advantage for the game as well as an 11-4 edge in corner kick attempts.

Senior goalkeepers Steven Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) and Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) split the game and combined on the shutout for the Beavers with Heintzelman making three saves and earning his ninth win of the season. Mankouski stopped the only shot he faced.

BSU senior netminder Michael Da Silva (Milford, Mass.), making his first start of the season, turned aside five shots in 74 ½ minutes of action for the Bears. Sophomore William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.) came on in relief of Da Silva and made three saves in his collegiate debut.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday. The Bears host MASCAC rival Worcester State University at 10:30, while the Beavers hit the road for a three o'clock NEWMAC game with Coast Guard.
