Men's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Fifth Ranked Amherst

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Amherst College scored a pair of second half goals as the nationally ranked Lord Jeffs downed host Bridgewater State University, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in men's soccer action at Swenson Field.

Amherst, ranked fifth in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III poll, improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Bridgewater slides to 0-4.

Amherst junior forward Jae Heo (Changwon, South Korea) broke a scoreless tie in the 53rd minutes off a feed from junior midfielder Julien Aoyama (Narberth, Pa.).  Aoyama served a cross inside the 18 and Heo drilled a shot into the left corner of the net.  Aoyamo would make it a 2-0 game less than five minutes later as he found the back of the net off a cross from senior forward Spencer Noon (Farmington, Conn.).

BSU junior netminder Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) played well between the pipes in the loss for the Bears as he turned aside ten shots.  Bagley made a big save at the end of the first half off a corner kick to keep the game scoreless heading to the intermission.

Amherst held a 24-7 shot advantage as well as a 14-2 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Thomas Bull (Montgomery, N.J.) picked up the shutout in goal for the Lord Jeffs as he made three saves.  Bull stopped BSU senior forward Simao Mendes (Brockton, Mass.) on a breakaway with about five minutes remaining in the game to preserve the shutout.

In upcomng action, Bridgewater travels to Fitchburg State University on Saturday to take on the Falcons in the MASCAC opener for both teams.  Game time is 6:00 PM.  Amherst heads to NESCAC foe Bates College on Saturday for a two o'clock game with the Bobcats.
