Emerson Halbleib Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the seventh time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate center Emerson Halbleib has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Carmel, Indiana, Halbleib averaged 13.5 points, 19 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals and three blocked shots in a perfect 2-0 week for the Bears while shooting 66.7% (12-18) from the floor.

Halbleib posted a double-double with 23 points and a career-high 26 rebounds (nine offensive) to go along with an assist, three steals and two blocks in a 79-75 win over MCLA. He came within one rebound of the Bears' single-game record of 27 set by Keith Richards in 1970 (Feb. 2). Halbleib also notched four points, 12 rebounds (two offensive), two assists and four blocks in a 102-85 victory over Fitchburg State University.

Through 25 games in his first season of NCAA competition, Halbleib is averaging 14.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.6 blocks. He is also shooting 68.1% (143-210) from the floor, 39.1% (9-23) from behind the arc and 71.3% (62-87) at the free throw line.

Halbleib currently leads the MASCAC in field goal percentage and blocked shots. He is also second among the conference leaders in double-doubles (11), third in rebounding. fourth in free throw percentage, fifth in steals, and sixth in both scoring and offensive rebounds (3.2 rpg).

On the national stage, Halbleib is fifth in all of Division III in field goal percentage, 15th in total blocks (64), 18th in blocks per game, tied for 25th in total rebounds (254), tied for 34th in rebounds per game and tied for 36th in double-doubles.

Halbleib also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors on November 21st, December 5th, January 2nd, January 9th, January 23rd and February 6th.

The BSU men's basketball team wrapped up regular season player with an overall record of 18-7. Seeded second in the MASCAC Tournament with an 8-4 conference mark, the Bears earned a first round bye and will host a semifinal round game on Thursday evening at 7:30.
