Emerson Halbleib Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the sixth time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate center Emerson Halbleib has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Carmel, Indiana, Halbleib averaged 22 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 assists, 3.5 steals and six blocked shots in a 1-1 week for the Bears while shooting 81.8% (18-22) from the floor and 70% (7-10) at the free throw line.

Halbleib posted a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds (four offensive) to go along with two assists, four steals and a career-high seven blocks in an 85-67 MASCAC win on the road over Salem State. He also notched 25 points, eight rebounds (six offensive), one assist, three steals and five blocks in a 75-72 conference setback to Worcester State

Through 22 games (all starts) in his first season of NCAA competition, Halbleib is averaging 14.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 2.6 blocks. He is also shooting 69.1% (130-188) from the floor, 38.1% (8-21) from behind the arc and 71.4% (60-84) at the free throw line.

Halbleib currently leads the MASCAC in field goal percentage and blocked shots. He is also second among the conference leaders in double-doubles (10), third in rebounding and free throw percentage, fourth in steals and sixth in both scoring and offensive rebounds (3.0 rpg).

On the national stage, Halbleib is fourth in all of Division III in field goal percentage, tied for 12th in total blocks (58), 17th in blocks per game and tied for 32nd in double-doubles.

Halbleib also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors on November 21st, December 5th, January 2nd, January 9th and January 23rd.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 16-6 on the season and 6-3 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to conference rival Westfield State University on Saturday to take on the Owls at noon.
