Emerson Halbleib Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate center Emerson Halbleib has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Halbleib averaged 15 points, 8.5 rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocked shots in a perfect 2-0 MASCAC week for the Bears. The Carmel, Indiana native also shot an impressive 84.6% (11-13) from the floor and 88.9% (8-9) at the free throw line.

Halbleib notched 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists, four steals and two blocked shots in a 91-78 victory over Westfield State, and added 16 points, eight rebounds, one assist and a season-high six blocks in an 83-65 win on the road over Fitchburg State.

Through 18 games in his first season of NCAA competition, Halbleib is averaging 13.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals and 2.3 blocks. He is also shooting 67.3% (99-147) from the floor, 38.9% (7-18) from behind the arc and 69.7% (46-66) at the free throw line.

Halbleib currently leads the MASCAC in field goal percentage and blocked shots. He is also second among the conference leaders in double-doubles (8), fourth in rebounding, fifth in free throw percentage, and eighth in scoring, steals and offensive rebounds (2.6 rpg).

On the national stage, Halbleib is seventh in all of Division III in field goal percentage, 28th in blocks and tied for 33rd in double-doubles.

Halbleib also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors on November 21st, December 5th, January 2nd and January 9th.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 13-5 on the season and 3-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain conference foe MCLA on Wednesday evening at 5:30.
