Emerson Halbleib Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second straight week and fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate center Emerson Halbleib has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

A native of Carmel, Indiana, Halbleib averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, three assists, one steal and 1.5 blocked shots in a 1-1 MASCAC week for the Bears while shooting 50% (8-16) from the floor and 69.2% (9-13) at the free throw line.

Halbleib posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds (three offensive) to go along with six assists, two steals and two blocks in a 108-105 overtime win over Salem State. He also tallied nine points, eight rebounds and a blocked shot in a 70-65 setback to Framingham State.

Through 14 games in his first season of NCAA competition, Halbleib is averaging 14.5 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks. He is also shooting 69.8% (81-116) from the floor, 42.9% (6-14) from behind the arc and 66% (35-53) at the free throw line.

Halbleib currently leads the MASCAC in field goal percentage, blocked shots and double-doubles (8). He is also second among the conference leaders in rebounds, sixth in offensive rebounds (2.9 rpg), seventh in free throw percentage and eighth in free throw percentage.

On the national stage, Halbleib is fifth in all of Division III in field goal percentage and tied for 13th in double-doubles. He also ranks 28th in blocks and 33rd in rebounding.

Halbleib also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors on November 21st, December 5th and January 2nd.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 11-3 on the season and 1-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to Worcester State University on Wednesday evening for a 5:30 conference game with the Lancers.
