Alex Gonzalez Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore guard Alex Gonzalez has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Gonzalez averaged 18 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists in a perfect 2-0 MASCAC week for the Bears while shooting 50% (13-26) from the floor and 53.3% (8-15) from three-point range.

Gonzalez tallied a career-high 25 points and eight rebounds (five offensive) to go along with three assists, a steal and a blocked shot in a 102-85 win over Fitchburg State University. He also notched 11 points, two rebounds and six assists in a 79-75 victory over MCLA.

Through 25 games this season (15 starts), Gonzalez is averaging 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and two assists, while shooting 40.4% (57-141) from the floor, 40.3% (29-72) from behind the arc and 71.4% (20-28) at the free throw line. He currently ranks second among the MASCAC leaders in three-point shooting.

In 45 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Gonzalez has amassed 194 points, 122 rebounds, 62 assists and 18 steals.

The BSU men's basketball team wrapped up regular season player with an overall record of 18-7. Seeded second in the MASCAC Tournament with an 8-4 conference mark, the Bears earned a first round bye and will host a semifinal round game on Thursday evening at 7:30.
