Alex Gonzalez Named to CSC Academic All-District® One Men's Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore guard Alex Gonzalez has been selected to the 2022-2023 Academic All-District® One Division III Men's Basketball Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Gonzalez is the only men's basketball student-athlete from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to earn the Academic All-District® accolade.

The 2022-2023 Academic All-District® Men’s Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. A student-athlete must have also played in at least 50% of his team's contests for the 2022-2023 season.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.

A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Gonzalez is majoring in health science and checks in with a 3.59 grade point average.

Through 25 games this season (15 starts), Gonzalez is averaging 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and two assists, while shooting 40.4% (57-141) from the floor, 40.3% (29-72) from behind the arc and 71.4% (20-28) at the free throw line. He currently ranks second among the MASCAC leaders in three-point shooting.

In 45 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Gonzalez has amassed 194 points, 122 rebounds, 62 assists and 18 steals.

Gonzales helped the BSU men's basketball team post an 18-7 record to date in 2022-2023 with an 8-4 conference mark. The Bears are seeded second in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game on Thursday evening at 5:30.
