Ryan Carney Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior guard Ryan Carney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Easton, Massachusetts, Carney averaged 26.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in a 2-1 week for the for the Bears last week. He also shot 53% (26-49) from the floor, 35% (6-17) from behind the arc and 85% (22-26) at the free throw line.

Carney tallied a season-high 30 points as well as three rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots in a 92-81 win over Wheaton College. He also posted a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to go along with seven assists in a 78-77 victory over Dean College, and added 29 points, two rebounds, three assists and a steal in a 94-84 setback to UMass Dartmouth.

In eight games this season, Carney is averaging 21.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists while shooting 45% (55-121) from the floor, 38% (17-45) from three-point range and 81% (42-52) at the charity stripe. He leads the MASCAC in both scoring and assists, and ranks sixth among the conference leaders in free throw percentage and eighth in three-point shooting percentage.

In 88 games over four seasons with the Bears, Carney has amassed 1,196 points, 273 rebounds and 215 assists. He has also connected for 135 career three-pointers.

Carney presently ranks 18th among the Bears’ all-time leading scorers.

The BSU men's basketball team is currently 2-6 on the season. The Bears entertain Becker College on Tuesday night at 7:30.
