Bears Knock Off Salem State, 93-87, in Key MASCAC Tilt

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior forward Roland Millien (Stoughton, MA) scored a game-high 24 points while pulling down 7 rebounds to help Bridgewater State College defeat visiting Salem State College, 93-87, in MASCAC men's basketball action on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center.

With the win Bridgewater State improves to 9-8 while Salem State's record falls to 12-5. Both team's MASCAC records now stand at 3-2.

Senior guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) and sophomore center Jim Torney (Braintree, MA) added 18 points apiece. Torney finished 8-for-9 from the floor and pulled down 9 rebounds, while Cuddihy connected on 3 of 5 three-pointers.

Freshman forward Judah Jackson (Everett, MA) chipped in with 15 points while sophomore guard Anthony Goss (Boston, MA) registered 10 points and a team-high 7 assists.

Millien scored his 24 points on 10-for-12 from the floor while he also went 4-for-8 from the charity stripe. Cuddihy and Jackson each finished the game with four assists.

Leading the way for Salem State was senior guard Marquis Victor (Lawrence, MA) who scored a team-high 20 points.  Victor finished 8 for 14 from the floor including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Junior Stevie Celestin (Somerville, MA) had a solid all-around game with 11 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds. Junior center Dylan Holmes (Groton, MA) added 14 points (7-for-8 from the floor) and 4 rebounds, while senior forward Jeremy Taitt (Boston, MA) chipped in with 13 points and 6 rebounds off the bench for the Vikings.

The Bears shot an impressive 56% from the floor in the game (39-for-69) while also finishing with an impressive 40-29 rebound advantage.

Bridgewater State took a slim 42-40 lead into the locker room. After Salem took their first lead of the second half (56-57) with 13:30 left to play, the lead would change hands 18 times, including five ties.

The Bears broke an 87-87 tie on a lay-up by Jackson with 2:08 remaining. BSC would tack on four unanswered free throws to close out the game.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday when they close-out the first-half of their MASCAC schedule with 3 o'clock games. Bridgewater will travel to Fitchburg State while Salem will host Worcester State.
