BSC Bears Win Fifth Straight with 84-66 Win over UMass

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior forward Roland Millien (Stoughton, MA) registered 18 points and seven rebounds while freshman Judah Jackson (Everett, MA) scored a game-high 19 points to help Bridgewater State College defeat visiting UMass Boston, 84-66, in men's basketball action on Thursday evening at the Tinsley Center.

With the win the Bears improve to 7-6 as they ride a five-game winning streak into Saturday's key MASCAC matchup with Framingham State. Tip-off is slated for 3 PM at the Tinsley Center.

Bridgewater State was also led by senior guard Tom Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) who notched 11 points and four assists while sophomore center Jim Torney (Braintree, MA) grabbed nine rebounds and scored six points. Sophomore guard Anthony Goss (Boston, MA) chipped in with nine points, six assists, and two steals.

Millien scored his 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor and he was a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe on the evening. Jackson added 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

For UMass Boston (1-13), senior guard Amigo Paniagua (Santiago, Dominican Republic) led the way with 17 points while sophomore center Terrell Maddox (Hyannis, MA) tallied 16 points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench for the Beacons.

After taking a 45-39 lead into the locker room at the intermission, the Bears built the lead up to 60-47 with 14:55 left to play in the second half. The Beacons trimmed the lead with a 13-6 run over the next seven minutes of play (66-60). But BSC responded with an impressive 14-0 scoring run holding UMB scoreless for over five minutes to put the game out of reach.

Bridgewater limited the Beacons to just 27 points in the second half.  The Bears shot 48% (33-for-69) from the floor for the game as well as 87% (13-for-15) at the line. BSC also out-rebounded UMass by a margin of 48-28 with 18 boards coming off the offensive glass.
