Field Hockey Drops 3-1 MASCAC Decision to Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State University field hockey team posted a 3-1 win over visiting Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup at Alumni Field.

The Owls, who swept the regular season series with the Bears, improve to 11-7 on the year and 7-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears fall to 4-10-1 overall and 1-8 in conference play.

Sophomore midfielder Raegen Perry (Nantucket, Mass.) staked the visitors to the 1-0 lead 5:24 into the second quarter with her third goal of the season. Madison Ellis blasted a shot from just inside the top of the circle that deflected off the foot of a Westfield defender. Perry collected the loose ball and deposited a shot into the wide-open left side of the cage.

Junior midfielder Leah Pierce (Barnstable, Mass.) converted off a penalty corner with 3:32 left to play in the first half to knot the score at 1-1.

The two teams would head to the break with the score tied at one-all.

Senior forward Sarah Richard (Templeton, Mass.) scored off the rebound off a Skyla Harthcock (Sr., Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) shot to give the Owls a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute. For Richard, the goal marked her fifth of the 2023 campaign.

Westfield capitalized on another penalty corner 3:53 into the fourth quarter. A long wrist shot from senior midfielder Madison Ouellette (Uxbridge, Mass.) deflected off the stick of a BSU defender and inside the left post to extend the Owl lead to 3-1. Senior midfielder Emily Martin (Southwick, Mass.) assisted on Ouellette's fourth marker of the year.

The Owls finished with a 17-8 shot advantage for the game as well as a 7-2 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Senior goaltender Page Reisman (Milford, Mass.) came on following halftime with game tied at 1-1 and stopped both shots she faced in 30 minutes of action to pick up her fourth win of the season.

Sophomore netminder Catherine Daoulas (Marshfield, Mass.) made five saves in the setback for Bridgewater State.

Both teams wrap up regular season and MASCAC play later this week. The Bears host Fitchburg State University on Friday night at seven o'clock. The Owls entertain Framingham State University on Saturday evening at five.
