Field Hockey Falls to Castleton, 8-0

CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior forward Emily Harris (Crondall, England) scored six goals and added a pair of assists to lead the Vermont State University Castleton field hockey team to an 8-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Sunday afternoon at Dave Wolk Stadium.

The Spartans improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Bears fall to 2-2-1. Castleton has won each of the five meetings of the two teams since the series began in 2018.

Harris had a hand in all eight goals. She potted the Spartans' first two goals of the contest and each of the last four. Harris assisted on a first quarter goal by freshman forward Emily Downing (Plymouth, N.H.) and set up Peyton Richardon's (So., Windsor, Vt.) scoring strike in the third period.

Harris now has 22 goals and four assists for 48 points on the season. She leads all of Division III in goals and scoring.

Castleton finished with a 27-2 shot advantage as well as a 14-2 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Sophomore goalkeeper Zoe Martin (Haverhill, Mass.) did not have to make a save between the pipes for the Spartans as she recorded her fifth win and second shutout of the season.

Sophomore netminder Catherine Daoulas (Marshfield, Mass.) turned aside seven shots for Bridgewater State.

The Bears open Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Thursday night when they travel to Salem State University for a seven o'clock game with the Vikings. The Spartans head to SUNY Morrisville on Saturday for a one o'clock game with the Mustangs.
