Six Bears Named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior forwards Hannah Rolfe and Bailey Turner, junior forward Alexis Giesta, sophomore defender Abby Massarelli, freshman goalkeeper Madelyne Guidaboni and freshman defender Emelia Westwater have each been named 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Scholars of Distinction.

Rolfe, Turner, Giesta, Massarelli, Guidaboni and Westwater are among over 470 Division III student-athletes from across the country to earn the honor, including 33 from the Little East Conference.

The NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2022-2023 academic year.

A native of Easton, Massachusetts, Rolfe is a chemistry and secondary education major with an outstanding 3.91 grade point average. Turner, who hails from Dedham, Massachusetts, is currently sporting an impressive 3.958 GPA as she is majoring in elementary education as well as psychology.

Giesta, a Fall River, Massachusetts product, is a psychology major with a remarkable 3.987 GPA, while Massarelli, who hails from Stoughton, Massachusetts, checks in with a superb 3.94 GPA and is majoring in elementary education.

Guidaboni and Westwater are both sporting perfect 4.0 GPAs after their first semester in college. Guidaboni, a product of Hanson, Massachusetts, is a computer science major, while Westwater, a Attleboro, Massachusetts native, is majoring in elementary education.

Earlier this month, Rolfe, Turner, Giesta, Massarelli, Guidaboni and Westwater were among 11 Bears named to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
