Ashley Bishop Named Head Field Hockey Coach at Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University Associate Vice President for Athletics and Student Wellness, Dr. Marybeth Lamb, announced today that Ashley Bishop has been named the head coach of the Bears’ field hockey program. Bishop replaces Julia Mauro who resigned following the 2021 season.

Bishop is a 2007 graduate of Assumption College where she earned a Bachelor of Art degree in English and Communications. Ashley played four years of field hockey for the Division II Greyhounds.

Prior to coaching at Bridgewater State, Bishop served as a field hockey coach at her alma mater, Barnstable High School for ten years including the last eight as the varsity head coach. She was also the JV softball coach for the Red Raiders.

“We are excited to have Ashley Bishop take over the reins of the BSU field hockey program,” said Lamb. “Here leadership and field hockey expertise will be instrumental in the team’s success.”

“Ashley brings a wealth of knowledge about the high school recruit scene to Bridgewater,” Lamb added. “This will, no doubt, help build our program back to prominence in New England.”

Bishop is a 2003 graduate of Barnstable High School. She played varsity halfback for the Red Raider field hockey team in 2001 and 2002, earning a pair of varsity letters. She served as a co-captain and was named as an Old Colony League All-Star her senior season. Bishop also played varsity basketball as well as varsity softball for two seasons at Barnstable. She was a Cape Cod Times All-Cape & Islands selection in her junior year in softball.

A resident of Centerville, Massachusetts, Bishop will also serve as the Bears’ intramural coordinator. Prior to taking her full-time role at Bridgewater State, Bishop was a teaching assistant at Barnstable High School and is a licensed English teacher.
