Field Hockey Falls to Framingham State, 5-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Framingham State University field hockey team posted a 5-1 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University on Wednesday night in a Little East Conference (LEC) affair at Maple Street Field.

The Rams improve to 6-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play. Framingham is now 11-32 versus the Bears since 1983.

The Rams scored three goals over a nine-minute stretch of the first half with freshman defender Natalia Roehr (Acton, Mass.), junior midfielder Corlene Guenard (Acton, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Abigail Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.) each finding the back of the net. Freshman midfielder Kennedy St. Pierre (Bathe, Maine) assisted on the first two tallies.

Freshman forward Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) got the Bears on the board with her first collegiate goal seven minutes into the second quarter to cut the deficit to 3-1. A crossing pass by freshman forward Lexi James (Ipswich, Mass.) was deflected by senior midfielder Jordyn Perry (Nantucket, Mass.) over to Gagnon who turned and fired a shot inside the right post.

Junior forward Brandi Core (Medway, Mass.) redirected a shot by Guenard into the right side of the net 3:22 into the third quarter to reclaim the three-goal advantage for the Rams.

Sophomore defender Kaylee Beck (Tyngsboro, Mass.) blasted a shot into the left side of the cage from just inside the circle to close out the scoring late in the fourth quarter. Guenard collected her second assist on the evening.

The Rams finished with a 24-6 shot advantage for the game as well as a 7-5 edge in penalty corner attempts.

BSU freshman goalkeeper Ashley Hamelin (Whitinsville, Mass.) turned aside 12 shots in the setback for the Bears. Hamelin has recorded double digit saves in five of her seven appearances this season.

Junior forward Kaitlin Loughlin (Ashland, Mass.) did not make a save as she earned her fourth win of the 2022 campaign between the pipes for the Rams.

The Little East schedule continues for both teams on Saturday morning at 11. The Bears travel to Salem State University to take on the Vikings, while the Rams entertain the Corsairs of UMass Dartmouth.
