Field hockey Tops Dean for First Win of the Season

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – First-year head coach Ashley Bishop collected her first collegiate win as the Bridgewater State University field hockey team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Dean College on Tuesday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 1-4 on the season, while the visiting Bulldogs fall to 0-5.

The Bears wasted no time in getting on the board just three and a half minutes into the contest as freshman forward Lexi James (Ipswich, Mass.) netted her first collegiate goal on a penalty corner. Senior forward  Hannah Rolfe (Easton, Mass.) collected the assist on the play as she connected with an open James following the rebound of a strong Zoe Bergeron (Blackstone, Mass.) shot.

The second goal of the game came on a fourth quarter penalty corner with just under nine minutes left to play in the game with Rolfe collecting her second assist of the afternoon. Bergeron received a deflection from Rolfe and found the back of the net with a no-doubter from nine-yards in front of the net. The goal marked the first of the season for Bergeron.

The Bears final goal of the day came from senior forward Sophia Morse (West Bridgewater, Mass.), who deflected a strong backhanded shot from James directly into the back of the cage.

Bridgewater finished with a decided 23-0 shot advantage for the game as well as a 16-0 edge in penalty corner attempts.

Freshman goalkeeper Madelyne Guidaboni (Hanson, Mass.) recorded her first collegiate win and shutout for the Bears.

Bulldogs junior netminder Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) turned aside eight shots in the setback.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to Anna Maria College on Thursday evening for a six o'clock game with the AMCATS. The Bulldogs head to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Regis College on Saturday morning to take on the Pride at 11.
