Field Hockey Edged by UMass Dartmouth in Overtime, 1-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior forward Brittany Perry (Dighton, Mass.) potted the game-winning goal 2:10 into overtime to lift the visiting UMass Dartmouth field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup on Wednesday night at Swenson Field.

The Corsairs improve to 6-10 on the season and 5-5 in the Little East with the win, while the Bears fall to 4-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

After a scoreless 60 minutes of action, the Corsairs capitalized in transition during the early stages of the first overtime session. After beating a defender, junior midfielder Mya Amaral (Rehoboth, Mass.) sent a pass to a wide open Perry who beat the oncoming BSU netminder one-on-one with a backhand shot into the right side of the cage.

For Perry, the goal marked her team-leading tenth of the season.

UMD rookie netminder Alyssa McDonough (Hill, N.H.) made three saves to record her sixth win of the season and second shutout.

Freshman goalkeeper Emily Ronan (North Billerica, Mass.) played well in the setback for the Bears as she turned aside ten shots. Bridgewater State also received a pair of defensive saves from junior defender Jordyn Perry (Nantucket, Mass.) and one by sophomore defender Erin Power (Byfield, Mass.).

UMass held a 19-10 shot advantage for the game as well as a 9-2 edge in penalty corner attempts.

The Little East schedule continues for both teams on Saturday. The Bears entertain Plymouth State University at noon, while the Corsairs travel to Fitchburg State University for an 11 o'clock game with the Falcons.
