Are there any community service activities you've enjoyed being involved in?
I help at a shelter, feeding the homeless. It feels good to help the people in my community who are struggling. Another community service activity that I enjoyed being involved in was helping at my church with Sunday school.
Any fun facts you're willing to share about yourself?
I am in the U.S Army National Guard as a 92A, which is an Automated Logistic Specialist - I issue and maintain equipment records and parts. I was born in Cape Verde, which is an island on the west coast of Africa.
What were you able to do that helped you get through the quarantine period earlier this year?
I was in Basic Training, so I got through quarantine by having my battle buddies by my side, helping each other go through this challenging time without seeing our families. It wasn't as big of an issue there because you stay at the same place with the same people for two months. We were all excited to see our families for graduation, but at the last minute they weren’t allowed to come. I was disappointed. I wanted them to see all my accomplishments.
Are you involved in any clubs/organizations on campus outside of athletics?
As of right now I'm not in anything outside of athletics, but I plan on joining the Cape Verdean Club to learn more about my culture.
What are your career plans after college?
I have so many things I’d like to do after college, and I don't know what to choose. I'm hoping to become a police officer to give back to my community, but am also very interested in becoming a physical therapist. I also want to become a Drill Sergeant in the U.S Army to coach, mentor, and transform civilians into soldiers.
