Field Hockey Drops 2-0 Decision to Eastern Connecticut

MANSFIELD, Conn. -- The Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team broke a scoreless tie with two late goals 47 seconds apart as the Warriors posted a 2-0 shutout victory over visiting Bridgewater State University in a Little East Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.

The host Warriors improve to 4-5 on the season and 4-3 in the Little East, while the Bears fall to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Junior Morgan Sanson (Thomaston, Conn.) scored her second game-winning goal in four days to help lift the Warriors to the conference win. Sanson corralled a pass from sophomore Lindsey McKeon (Chester, Conn.) from the right side and beat the BSU netminder from close range with a low shot inside the right post with 10:17 left to play.

It was the team-leading fifth goal of the season and third game-winner for Sanson.

Less than a minute after Sanson broke through for Eastern, freshman Brianna Nolan (Watertown, Conn.) quickly put the game out of reach when she potted a shot from a bad angle stationed near the end line to the right of the cage. Nolan's first career goal carried low inside the far left post.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for Eastern against Bridgewater, which had captured eight of the previous ten in the series.

Eastern outshot Bridgewater, 28-8, and each team had seven penalty corners.

Sophomore goalie Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn.) turned aside five shots to record her first solo shutout of the season for the Warriors. BSU senior netminder Allison Chappell (Raynham, Mass.) made 11 saves in the setback.

The Little East schedule continues for both teams on Saturday afternoon at four. The Warriors travel to Worcester State University while the Bears entertain Westfield State University.
