Field Hockey Posts 4-2 Win over Anna Maria

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Four different Bears scored as the Bridgewater State University field hockey team downed the visiting AMCATS of Anna Maria College, 4-2, on Thursday night at Swenson Field.

Bridgewater improves to 11-1 on the season as the Bears are off to the best start in program history.  Anna Maria slips to 5-7 with the loss.

The AMCATS got on the board first as freshman midfielder Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) scored off a scramble in front of the net in the seventh minute of play.  For Dalbec it was her fifth goal of the season. (Video Clip)

Bridgewater notched the equalizer in the 11th minute as senior forward Beth Phillips (Worcester, Mass.) scored her seventh goal of the year off a penalty corner as she knocked home a rebound of a Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.) shot. (Video Clip) Five minutes later, junior forward Demi Miskiv (Centerville, Mass.) put the Bears ahead to stay with her career-best 13th marker as she redirected a shot by classmate Carissa Vizakis (Bellingham, Mass.). (Video Clip) Bridgewater would take the 2-1 lead into the intermission.

Farland staked the Bears to a 3-1 advantage early in the second half off a nice feed from Phillips as she ripped a shot into the left corner of the net. (Video Clip) The goal marked the 18th of the season for the senior captain as she set a new career high.  Farland also extended her point-scoring streak to 16 games dating back to last season.

Vizakis would cap off the BSU scoring in the 42nd minute as she scored her eighth goal of the season converting off a rebound. (Video Clip)  Both Vizakis and Phillips finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Bears.

Senior forward Marybeth McClune (Worcester, Mass.) would make it a 4-2 game in the latter stages of the final stanza as she chipped a shot over the BSU keeper for her team-leading seventh goal of the season  Dalbec assisted on the goal as she finished with three points on the night.

Junior Kacie Sturgeon (Dartmouth, Mass.) and senior Cassie Johansen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) combined to make five saves between the pipes for the Bears with Sturgeon recording her fourth win of the season.  Freshman netminder Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) post a season-high 15 saves for the AMCATS.

Bridgewater held a 35-10 shot advantage for the game as well as a 15-7 edge in penalty corners.

In upcoming action, the Bears host Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.  The AMCATS entertain New England Collegiate Conference rival Becker College next Tuesday evening at six.
