Field Hockey Posts 3-0 Senior Day Shutout over Eastern Connecticut

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University field hockey team capped off regular season play with a 3-0 shutout victory over Little East Conference (LEC) foe Eastern Connecticut State University on Senior Day at Swenson Field.

Bridgewater improves to 12-5 on the season and 7-4 in the LEC.  The Bears will be the number four seed at next week's Little East Tournament and their quarterfinal round opponent is still to be determined.  Eastern Connecticut ends the season with a record of 3-15 (0-11 LEC).

Prior to the game, seniors Ashley Caouette (Blackstone, Mass.), Breanna Clement (Pittsfield, Maine) and Stephanie Lannon (Swampscott, Mass.) were honored.  Clement would score the Bears' third and final goal of the game while Lannon dished out a pair of assists.  Caouette led a solid defensive effort which limited Eastern to just one shot.

Junior midfielder Shelby Farland (Fiskdale, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 12th minute of play as she notched her team-leading 14th goal of the season off a feed from Lannon.  Classmate Megan Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) gave BSU the 2-0 lead with her eighth marker of the year in the23rd minute as she scored off a rebound of an Alison Loranger (Freetown, Mass.) shot.

Clement scored on a backhand shot off a pass from Lannon in the 44th minute to cap off the scoring. The goal marked Clement's eighth of the season.

The Bears held a 16-1 shot advantage for the game as well as a 12-0 edge in penalty corners.

BSU junior goaltender Cassie Johansen (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) was forced to make just one save in recording her 12th win and second shutout of the season.   

Senior Danielle Reichardt (Ocean Township, N.J.) turned aside nine shots between the pipes for the visiting Warriors.
