Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Freshman forward Kirsten Johannesen (Warren, VT) tallied the game-winning goal in the second overtime period to lift the visiting Seahawks of Salve Regina University to a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater State College in Division III field hockey action this afternoon at Swenson Field.

Johannesen netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from junior forward Toni Pucillo (North Easton, MA) about 4 ½ minutes into the second overtime period.  The goal came not long after Bridgewater was unable to capitalize on a two on none breakaway opportunity at the other end of the field.

BSC opened the scoring with about 5 ½ minutes remaining in the first half as sophomore midfielder Jenny Jackson (Somerset, MA) potted her first goal of the season.  Junior forward Stephanie Barry (Pembroke, MA) assisted on the scoring strike.

That lead was short-lived however as less than three minutes later Pucillo notched an unassisted tally to tie the game up at 1-1.  For Pucillo it was her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Seahawk freshman netminder Danielle Mullane (Hanover, MA) picked up her first collegiate victory in her first career start.  Mullane registered seven saves on the day including the key breakaway stop in overtime.  Her counterpart in goal, Bridgewater State sophomore Katie Weber (Arlington, MA), turned aside five shots for the game.

BSC outshot the Seahawks by a margin of 14-9, including an 11-4 advantage after the first half.  Six of the Bears' 14 shots were off goal, however, while Salve had just two shots that were not on net.  Bridgewater also held a 12-10 edge in penalty corner opportunities.

The Bears (2-5) host Keene State College in a Little East Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM.  Salve Regina (3-5) hosts New England College on Saturday at 1.
