Field Hockey Edged by Endicott, 2-1

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. -- The Endicott College Gulls were able to top the Bridgewater State College Bears in non-conference field hockey action tonight, 2-1, from Beverly, Mass..  The win was the fifth in a row for the Gulls and moved them to 6-1 on the season while dropping the Bears to 1-4.

The Gulls were led by senior captain Samantha Bourgeois (Gardner, Mass.) who had a goal and an assist in the victory. Bourgeois was able to start the scoring as she put the ball in the back of the net unassisted 20:13 into the game as she put home a rebound off of a Joanne Reid (Clarksville, Md.) shot.

The rest of the first half was a back and forth battle as neither team was able to get anything going and time expired with no more shots being taken from either side.

Bridgewater came out of halftime looking for the equalizer and was able to get it off the stick of sophomore Bethany Bush (Littleton, Mass.) only a minute into the second half.  Bush took a pass from fellow sophomore Jenny Jackson (Somerset, Mass.) and quickly deposited the ball into the net.

The Gulls, however, would be able to answer about 15 minutes later as Bourgeois led the attack on the Bears' goal.  Bourgeois made a nifty pass to freshman Anna Giannoni (Granby, Conn.) who put the ball through the legs of goalie Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) for the decisive goal of the match.

Endicott senior goalie Chelsea DeFeo (York, Maine) picked up the win in goal for the Gulls moving her record to 6-1 on the season.  DeFeo allowed just the one goal on the six shots she faced.  Weber took the loss between the pipes for the Bears despite making six saves on the night.

The Blue and Green look to continue their hot streak when they travel to Quincy, Massachusetts to take on the Regis College Pride on Saturday in TCCC action at 2:00 p.m.  The Bears look to wrap up their season-opening six-game road trip when they travel to Eastern Connecticut to take on the Warriors Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
