Bush Nets Game-Winner as Field Hockey Downs WPI in OT

Box Score

WORCESTER, MA --- Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA) scored 6:55 into the first overtime to give Bridgewater State a dramatic 2-1 victory over host WPI in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday evening.  Bridgewater State is now 1-1 on the season while WPI dips to 2-1.

Bush knocked home the game-winner following a nifty pass off the stick of Kelly Duchemin (Mashpee, MA).  Her goal capped an exciting overtime period where the Bears amassed four of the five shots but dodged a WPI penalty corner.

WPI forced the extra session when freshman Sasha Marokhovsky (Upton, MA) buried a pass from Jackie McDonough (Winchester, MA) following a scramble in front of the net with 13:34 left in regulation.  Bridgewater State collected the only goal of the first half when Kelly Downs (Hanover, MA) deposited a penalty stoke into the back of the net in the 19th minute.

Katie Weber (Arlington, MA) and Chelsea Bracchi (Pembroke, MA) split time in net for victorious Bears.  Weber, who picked up the win, made one save while playing the first half and overtime while Bracchi was credited with three stops in the second half.

Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) was strong in net for WPI.  The sophomore goalkeeper posted seven saves while Meganne Chiasson (North Andover, MA) added a defensive save for the Engineers late in regulation.

Both teams return to action with road contests on Saturday.  WPI travels to Schenectady, NY for a 2pm non-conference match-up versus Union while Bridgewater States opens up Little East conference play with a 1pm game at UMass Dartmouth.
