BSC Bears Fall to Framingham State in Double Overtime, 2-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Alison Gauthier (Northbridge, MA) tallied the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Framingham State College field hockey team to a 2-1 double overtime victory over host Bridgewater State this afternoon in Bridgewater.

With the loss, Bridgewater drops to 10-4 on the season and 6-3 in the Little East Conference. Framingham improves to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

Bridgewater State snapped a scoreless tie in the 57th minute on a goal by freshman forward Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA). Senior forward Ashley Panzini (Saugus, MA) assisted on the goal which was the 9th of the season for Bush and her 6th in the last four games.

Framingham tied the game up less than two minutes later as sophomore forward Kali Barrett (North Attleboro, MA) tipped home a shot by sophomore midfielder Jade Franzen (Mansfield, MA).

Bridgewater had a golden opportunity to win the game in the first overtime, but Panzini was stopped on a clean breakaway by Framingham sophomore keeper Stephanie Bourgeois (Waltham, MA).

BSC outshot the Rams by a margin of 17-6, and held a 13-9 advantage in penalty corners. Bourgeois finished with 8 saves, while senior netminder Nicole Downs (Hanover, MA) turned aside 3 shots between the pipes for the Bears.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday afternoon as the Bears host the University of Southern Maine at 2 PM in a Little East Conference match-up. Framingham travels to UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday for a 1 o’clock Little East game with the Corsairs.
