DANBURY, Conn. – Bridgewater State
College senior forward Ashley Panzini (Saugus, MA)
scored in the game's ninth minute off an assist from
Stephanie Barry (Pembroke, MA) as the Bears went
on to defeat Western Connecticut State University, 2-0, at The
Westside Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon in the Little East
Conference field hockey action.
Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA) scored in the opening
minutes of the second half, assisted by Kelly
Downs (Hanover, MA), to complete the game’s scoring.
The win lifts the Bears season record to 10-3 overall, 6-2 in the LEC, while the loss drops the Colonials to 4-9, 3-5 in league play.
Bridgewater State’s goalie, Nicole Downs (Hanover, MA), recorded four saves to earn the shutout over WestConn.
In goal for the Colonials, Christina Natale
(Farmington, CT) made nine saves in the first half, while
Sandra Vermeulen (Riverdale, NJ) turned away three
Bridgewater State shots in the second half.
Prior to today’s game, WestConn recognized the contributions
made by the team’s seniors Kim Bauco
(Danbury, CT) and Cortney Romyns (Newton, NJ).
