FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College
scored two goals in the first half enroute to a 4-0 shutout victory
over host Fitchburg State College Saturday afternoon in MASCAC
field hockey action at Elliot Field.
The Bears (8-3; 5-2 LEC) got on the board in the 15th minute when
sophomore Kelly
Downs (Hanover, MA) connected on a penalty stroke. They
quickly doubled the lead at
the 17:26 mark on Ashley Panzini’s (Saugus,
MA) first of two goals on the day.
Bethany Bush (Littleton, MA) put the game out
of reach with just over seven minutes
left to play with an unassisted tally. Panzini put the finishing
touches on the contest with
her second marker of the day at the 1:43 mark of the second half.
The Falcons fell to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in Little East play
despite getting strong play from
midfielder Mari Roma (Foxboro, MA) and
Vanessa Truax (Foxboro, MA).
Fitchburg goaltender Emily Creen (Worcester,
MA) made 10 stops while Bears keeper
Nicole Downs (Hanover, MA) turned away three shots
for the victory before getting
relieved with 4:30 to play in the game.
The Falcons are back in action Thursday night when they host
Endicott College (7:00
pm) while BSC travels to Salve Regina (4:00 pm) that same day.
