SALEM, Mass. -- Senior forward Ashley
Panzini (Saugus, MA) scored 1:23 into overtime to lead the
visiting Bridgewater State College Bears to a 1-0 decision over
Salem State in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchplayed at Alumni
Field this evening.
Panzini blasted home the unassisted, sudden death game-winner from
10 yards out. Both of her goals this season have been game-winners
as she also notched the deciding tally in BSC’s 1-0 win over
UMass-Dartmouth earlier this season.
The defensive contest was highlighted by outstanding goalkeeping at both ends of the field. Bears' senior goaltender Nicole Downs (Hanover, MA) backboned the visitor's defense while freshman goalkeeper Jessica McKenna (Rowley, MA) was equally impressive for the Lady Vikings (4-2 overall; 3-1 LEC).
Downs stopped 10 shots while McKenna also made 10 saves. The Bears (5-2, 2-2 LEC) held a 14-13 advantage in shots on goal.
SSC's next match will be Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 pm when
the Lady Vikings (4-2, 3-1 LEC) travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a
Little East Conference contest. Bridgewater State hosts Little East
rival Worcester State on Saturday at 11 AM.
