Isaiah Wright Named MASCAC Football Special Teams Co-Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University junior kick returner Isaiah Wright has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Special Teams Player of the Week. Wright shares this week's honor along with junior linebacker Najier Monteiro of Framingham State University.

Wright jumpstarted the Bears’ scoring in a key 35-28 MASCAC win over Western Connecticut State University on Saturday with a school record-tying 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Worcester, Massachusetts product tied Jim Pirello’s program mark for longest kickoff return set in 1971.

The kickoff return for a touchdown also marked the second of the 2023 campaign for Wright as he tied the Bears’ single-season mark set in 1990 by John Comeau and equaled by Chris Constantine in 2010.

Wright is currently tied for the NCAA Division III lead in kickoff return touchdowns and ranks third in all of Division III with 38.9 yards per return.

In 13 games over two seasons with the Bears, Wright has returned ten kickoffs for 308 yards as he is averaging 30.8 yards per return. Wright has also rushed for 317 yards and a touchdown, and caught 17 passes for 59 yards.

The BSU football team is currently 2-2 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the MASCAC. The conference schedule continues on Saturday when the Bears travel to Fitchburg State Universuty for a noontime game with the Falcons.
