Adam Couch Named MASCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University graduate running back Adam Couch has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week.

Couch rushed for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added four receptions for 55 yards to amass 134 all purpose yards on Saturday in a 35-28 MASCAC win over Western Connecticut State University. The Winchendon, Massachusetts product scored on touchdown runs of two and three yards. The run from two yards out tied the game up at 14 while his three yard plunge gave the Bears a 21-14 lead that they would not relinquish.

Through four games this season, Couch has carried the ball 74 times for 343 yards and five touchdowns as he is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 85.8 yards per game. Couch has also caught 16 passes for 200 yards and another score.

Couch currently leads the MASCAC in scoring (36 pts.) and all purpose yards (543), and is tied for the conference lead in rushing touchdowns. He also ranks second among the MASCAC leaders in rushing yards, fourth in receptions and fifth in receiving yards.

On a national level, couch is tied for 20th in all of Division III in rushing touchdowns, and ranks 30th in rushing yards as well as 45th in all-purpose yards (135.75 ypg).

In 23 games over two seasons with the Bears, Couch has rushed for 2,341 yards and 27 touchdowns on 423 carries. He has also hauled in 44 receptions for 497 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns.

Couch is presently eighth all-time in program history in rushing yards, ninth in rushing touchdowns, tied for 11th in total touchdowns (29), 12th in rushing attempts and 14th in scoring (174 pts.).

The MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week distinction marks the fourth of Couch’s career.

The BSU football team is currently 2-2 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in the MASCAC. The conference schedule continues on Saturday when the Bears travel to Fitchburg State Universuty for a noontime game with the Falcons.
