James Cahoon Named MASCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior quarterback James Cahoon has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Offensive Player of the Week.

Cahoon completed 30 of 38 (78.9%) pass attempts for 274 yards and three touchdowns in the Bears’ 41-19 MASCAC win over Plymouth State University. The Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts native connected on touchdown passes of five, five and eight yards to three different receivers. He was 6-for-8 passing on third down and 2-for-2 on fourth down. The Bears scored on each of their seven drives (five touchdowns, two field goals) and all seven of the drives lasted at least ten plays.

Cahoon set the Bears’ single-game mark for completions eclipsing the previous standard of 29 set by Danny Higgins in 2016 versus Curry College. He also became the fourth quarterback in program history to throw 50 touchdown passes as he increased his career total to 51.

In three games this season, Cahoon has completed 80 of 117 pass attempts for 873 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions. He currently leads the MASCAC in completions, attempts, conpletion percentage (.684), passing yards and passing touchdowns.

On a national level, Cahoon is presently tied for ninth in all of Division III in completions per game (26.67), tied for 16th in passing yards, tied for 27th in passing touchdowns, 32nd in completion percentage and tied for 44th in points responsible for (48).

In 26 games over four seasons with the Bears, Cahoon has completed 474 of 790 pass attempts for 5,839 yards and 51 touchdowns. He the Bears' all-time leader in completion percentage (.600), ranks second in efficiency rating (139.34) and tied for second in completions. Cahoon is also third all-time in program history in passing yards and passing touchdowns. 

The MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week distinction marks the third of Cahoon's career.

The BSU football team is currently 1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the MASCAC. The Bears entertain conference rival Western Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at four o'clock.
