BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore safety Zachary Souza has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week. Souza was honored for his performance in the Bears' 10-0 Cranberry Bowl win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy this past weekend.
Souza recorded a pair of interceptions, including a goal-line pick, to go along with four tackles (three solo) in the victory over the Buccaneers. His first interception of the day was an impressive leaping snare on the Bucs' third drive of the afternoon.
In ten games this season, Souza has recorded 45 tackles (33 solo) and four interceptions to go along with a pass breakup. He is currently tied for the MASCAC lead in interceptions.
In 20 games over his first two seasons with the Bears, Souza has amassed 71 tackles (47 solo), five interceptions and three pass breakups.
The BSU football team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 6-4 including a 6-2 mark in the MASCAC. The Bears will host Catholic University in the New England Bowl on Saturday, November 19th at noon.
