Offensive Line Selected to D3football.com Team of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University starting offensive line has been selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week. The o-line was honored for its performance in the Bears' 45-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win over Worcester State University this past Saturday.

Freshman left tackle Lookman Balogun (Randolph, Mass.), senior left guard Matt Beyer (Cranston, R.I.), graduate center Mattheau Gaudet (Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore right guard Michael Garafola (Bradford, R.I.) and senior right tackle Alexander Byron (Tiverton, R.I.) paved the way for more than 500 yards (509) of total offense for the second consecutive game. The Bears put together seven scoring drives in the shutout victory over the Lancers including a six-play, 69-yard drive, a 13-play, 88-yard drive, a 12-play, 55-yard drive, a seven-play, 86-yard drive and a five-play, 74-yard drive. The BSU offensive had an advantage of more than seven minutes in time of possession.

Thanks in part to the outstanding play of the offensive line, senior running back Adam Couch (Winchendon, Mass.) rushed for 163 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.

The line also provided outstanding protection for senior quarterback James Cahoon (Buzzards Bay, Mass.). Cahoon completed 24 of 31 pass attempts for 302 yards and three touchdowns.

Through six games this season, the Bears rank 26th in all of Division III in scoring offense (39.7 ppg), 27th in total offense (450.2 ypg) and 46th in passing offense (263.5 ypg).

The BSU football team is currently 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC. Following a bye week, the Bears will travel to Westfield State University on Saturday, October 22nd for a two o'clock MASCAC game with the Owls.
