Shane Drake Named MASCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior kicker and punter Shane Drake has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Drake booted a 30-yard field goal in the Bears’ 10-0 victory over Mass. Maritime in the 43rd Annual Cranberry Bowl on Saturday. The Franklin, Massachusetts product also averaged 42.0 yards on two punts and 58.7 yards on three kickoffs with one touchback. 

Through ten games this season, Drake is 5-for-7 in field goal attempts and has converted 8 of 10 extra points. He is also averaging 58.0 yards on 59 kickoffs with 11 touchbacks.

In the punting game, Drake is averaging 42.9 yards on 36 punts with a long of 66 and nine inside the 20. Eight of his 36 punts have gone for over 50 yards.

Drake currently leads the MASCAC and ranks sixth in all of Division III in punting average . He also ranks second among the conference leaders in made field goals and third in punts inside the 20.

Drake also earned MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors back on September 25th for his performance in the Bears’ 40-27 MASCAC win over Western Connecticut State University. 

The BSU football team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 6-4 including a 6-2 mark in the MASCAC. The Bears will play in the New England Bowl on Saturday, November 19th. The opponent, site and time will be announced tomorrow.
