James Cahoon Named MASCAC Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior quarterback James Cahoon has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Cahoon shares the weekly honor along with Plymouth State University senior running back Manny Sanchez.

Cahoon completed 24 of 33 pass attempts for 249 yards and three touchdowns to earn Most Valuable Player honors in the Bears’ 34-24 New England Bowl victory over Catholic University. The Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts native connected on scoring strikes of three, nine and 32 yards and also added 29 yards on the ground.

In 11 games this season, Cahoon completed 216 of 345 pass attempts for 2.658 yards and 25 touchdowns. He set BSU single season marks for completions, passing yards and completion percentage (.626).

Cahoon ranked second among MASCAC quarterbacks in completions, attempts, completion percentage, passing yards and passing touchdowns as well as third in efficiency rating (146.60).

On a national level, Cahoon is presently 18th in all of Division III in passing yards, tied for 22nd in passing touchdowns, 30th in completions per game (19.64) and tied for 38th in points responsible for (156).

In 23 games over his first three seasons with the Bears, Cahoon has completed 394 of 673 pass attempts for 4,966 yards and 43 touchdowns. He is third all-time in program history in completions and passing yards, and fifth in passing touchdowns. He is also the Bears' all-time leader in completion percentage (.585) and ranks third in efficiency rating (136.86).

The MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week distinction marks the second of Cahoon's career.

The BSU football team finished the 2022 campaign with an overall record of 7-4 including a 6-2 MASCAC mark. The Bears capped off the regular season with a 10-0 Cranberry Bowl win over Mass. Maritime before posting the 34-24 victory over Catholic in the New England Bowl.
