Six Bears Named to CSC Academic All-District® One Football Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Six members of the Bridgewater State University football program have been selected to the 2022 Academic All-District® One Division III Football Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).

Earning the honor from Bridgewater State are senior running back Adam Couch, graduate defensive back Andre Domond, senior linebacker James Fontaine, junior defensive tackle Zachary Gamelin, senior linebacker Robert Marshall and senior wide receiver Michael Nocera

The six BSU football gridironers are among the 17 student-athletes from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) to be named to the 2022 CSC Academic All-District® One Division III Football Team

The 2022 Academic All-District® Football Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. A student-athlete must have also played in at least 50% of her team's contests for the 2022 season.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.

Couch, who is making his second appearance on the Academic All-District® One Division III Football Team, is an economics major with a 3.81 grade point average. The Winchendon, Massachusetts product rushed for 1998 yards and 22 touchdowns over his first two seasons with the Bears. In 2022, he carried the ball 182 times for 978 yards and nine touchdowns, and caught 23 passes for 273 yards and a score. Couch was named to the All-MASCAC Team in each of his first two seasons at Bridgewater State.

A native of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Domond graduated this past spring with a degree in physical education. He posted a 3.56 GPA as an undergrad and competed this fall as a grad student. In 21 game over two seasons with the Bears, Domond notched 56 tackles, including 46 solo stops, to go along with 12 passes defended,

Fontaine, who hails from East Grand Forks, Michigan, currently sports a 3.87 GPA while majoring in accounting and finance. Fontaine appeared in 19 games over the last two seasons on special teams and at linebacker. He recorded 30 tackles with 18 solo stops, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup while adding two kickoff returns for 21 yards.

A Williston, Vermont product, Gamelin is majoring in criminal justice and checks in with a 3.75 GPA. In 16 games over his first two seasons on the gridiron, Gamelin has recorded 18 tackles with ten solo stops and 1 1/2 tackles for loss.

A criminal justice major, Marshall has produced a 3.62 GPA since arriving at Bridgewater State. In 18 games over three seasons with the Bears, Marshall made 11 tackles with six solo stops while spending time on special teams and at linebacker.

Nocera is a physical education major with a 3.63 GPA. The Cumberland, Rhode Island product led the Bears this season with 45 receptions for 546 receiving yards. He also caught five touchdowns passes. In three seasons at Bridgewater State, Nocera has 48 career receptions for 581 yards and five touchdowns.

Couch, Domond, Fontaine, Gamelin, Marshall and Nocera helped the BSU football team post a 7-4 record in 2022 including a 6-2 conference mark. The Bears capped off the season with a 34-24 victory over Catholic University in the New England Bowl.
