BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman linebacker Steven Silvia has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) GEICO Football Rookie of the Week. GEICO is the proud sponsor of the MASCAC weekly awards program.

A native of Dighton, Massachusetts, Silvia recorded seven tackles including one tackle for a loss to go along with a recovered fumble and a pass breakup in the Bears' 19-13 MASCAC win over Plymouth State University.

Through six games this season, Silvia has registered 31 tackles (23 solo) with four going for loss including a sack. He also has an interception and a pass breakup to his credit as well as a pair of recovered fumbles.

Silvia currently leads the MASCAC in recovered fumbles and is tied for 11th in the conference in solo tackles.

Silvia also earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors back on September 16th for his performance against Framingham State University.

The BSU football team is currently 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in the MASCAC. The Bears celebrate Homecoming Weekend on Saturday by welcoming UMass Dartmouth to Swenson Field. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 PM.
